Here are the results of the 414 businesses that we talked to in Oregon.

We asked those surveyed: "What do you consider your largest staffing challenge in today's market?"   Of those who responded...

    13% said retaining current talent
15% said finding and attracting new talent
42% said both retaining and finding talent
30% did not know or did not respond

Almost half of those surveyed in Oregon felt that it is equally challenging to find and attract new talent as it is to retain the talent once they have joined the organization.

We then wanted to know whether the shifting business climate has influenced current staffing challenges. We asked, "Are your staffing challenges different from a year ago?"

    27% Yes
    60% No
    13% N/A

Of those who said "yes", the majority cited the economic shift as the major contributing factor.

To further explore employee retention, we asked, What position has the highest turnover rate in your company? The results follow:

    42% Light Industrial
    25% Clerical/Administrative
    16% Customer Service/Sales
    10% Accounting/Banking/Finance
      7% All Others

Of those indicating highest turnover in Clerical/Administrative roles, 50% indicated their Receptionist positions had the highest turnover rate, while 29% said their Administrative Assistants turned over most. 38% Light Industrial
    14% Clerical/Administrative
    19% Customer Service/Sales
    12% Accounting/Banking/Finance

We were curious, "Does your company currently use a Staffing Service?"

55% Yes/Will use in the future
    40% No
      5% N/A

Since the majority of Corporate America finds value in working with a Staffing Service, we asked what most commonly creates the need to use a Staffing Service and what type of service is most frequently used. Respondents answered:

30% Vacant Positions Including Especially Hard to Fill Positions (18%) 19% Peak Seasons
    15% Special Projects
    11% Vacation/Sick Leave/Maternity Leave
